I've been working as a member of CAFOD's HIV team for nearly two years. There is always more to learn and I want to know more about the programmes we support. I also want other people to know about the great work being carried out by our partners overseas and to live in solidarity with families and communities affected by HIV and AIDS.
World AIDS Day on December 1st is a good opportunity to do this. The theme is 'leadership' - and remember that leadership can start with you.
All around the developing world CAFOD is fighting back against HIV and AIDS. Given the scale and urgency of the poroblem CAFOD has made this one of its four top priority areas of work.
Through a network of outstanding partner organisations, built up over 20 years working on this issue, CAFOD can reach people who often have no other support.
CAFOD works through partner organisations in 3 key ways:
- care - supporting people and communities living with HIV
- prevention - reducing the spread and impact of HIV
- advocacy - defending the rights and dignity of people with the virus and fighting injustices that can lead to infection.
