When I saw some films about sealife being swamped with plastic rubbish I realised the scope of this problem.
You don't really need to use a horrible white plastic bag - you can get a nice plastic or cotton bag that you carry in your normal bag.
It really isn't that hard but still, I do have days when I forget my pretty plastic bag at home and then I have to take the supermarket shopping bag.
Now I promised, it'll be harder to forget.

Some of the people who signed this promise also signed these promises...
And I still seem to collect a few plastic bags along the way.
... Hopefully making a promise will help jog my memory next time I go shopping.
Happy new Year!
I am so delighted that so many people signed up to my promise. I hope we'll all be strong enough to make our promises a habit in 2008.
Since I started my promise I managed to avoid using plastic bags in most cases. I have to admit that I did put my shopping into a plastic bag 3 or 4 times when I wasn't cycling (so no panniers) or I forgot my pretty re-usable plastic bag. But it is becoming a habit now so I feel pretty good about it.
I'd love to hear how you are getting on - you can leave your thoughts in the comments section on the promise page.

My next green livesimply challenge is to lobby my MP about the Climate Bill. There is a livesimply promise about it from Lucy from CAFOD campaigns which I signed up to.

Also, I emailed my MP about the Bill and am waiting for his response.
If this sounds like something you would consider doing, you can go to the CAFOD website if you want to learn more about it.

Good luck and I hope you continue living simply in 2008.
